Axle Housing Repairs

Precision bearing race and spring perch repairs for Model A and other vintage axle housings.

Keeping Your Axle Housing Right

We now offer repairs to the bearing races and spring perches for the Model A and other axle housings. Worn or damaged bearing races are a common problem on these vintage axles — and when left unaddressed, they lead to bearing failure and costly damage. Our repair process uses a South Bend Lathe to machine the housing bore true before pressing in a new race with the correct interference fit.

Race Removal on the South Bend Lathe

The worn bearing race is carefully removed by turning it on a South Bend Lathe. This precision machining ensures the housing bore is clean and true before the new race is fitted.

New Race Fitted with Interference

The new bearing race is fitted with a .002" interference fit so it will stay permanently in place. If it ever gets hot enough to come loose, the bearing would be destroyed anyway — so this fit is the right spec for the job.
